Description: These original old antique prints / plates originate from: 'Admirandorum Quadruplex Spectaculum; delectum, pictum at aeri in cisum, per Johannem van Gall.', in 4 parts, published by Pieter Schenk, Amsterdam, ca. 1702. This work with 71 views of estates in the Netherlands and Germany is very rare.Artists and Engravers: The publisher of this work is Pieter Schenk. Petrus Schenck, or Pieter, or Peter Schenk the elder (1660-1711/1713) was a German engraver and cartographer active in Amsterdam and Leipzig. The plates are engraved by Jan van Gall (1656-1722), a respected Dutch engraver from Nijmegen.

Technical Details

  • Subject: Set of 17 prints of: 'Het Koninklyk Hof, op het Loo.' (The Royal Court het Loo.) Palace and gardens of the het Loo, near Apeldoorn, The Netherlands. This set originally has 17 plates. The overall birdseye view is missing. We added a similar view from a different source (Beaulieu, 1667). Scans show first 12 of 17 plates.
  • Size (in inch): The overall size is ca. 7.9 x 6.7 inch. The image size is ca. 6.3 x 5.1 inch.
  • Size (in cm): The overall size is ca. 20 x 17 cm. The image size is ca. 16 x 13 cm.
  • Medium: Copperplate etching and engraving on verge type hand laid paper.
  • Condition: Excellent given age. General age related toning and light staining from handling as visible on image. Please study scan carefully.
