"Dead Lies" by Lisa D. DeNeal, is a crime drama made for front page news. Adam Davenport is a correspondent for his hometown newspaper, the Gary Hierarchy, which has its share of love and hate among fellow citizens. They love it when positive stories about the community are published, but hate that they have read half of the newspaper to find the good news. Davenport's familiarity and recognition results in people loving him for his work or chastising him for 'selling out' as an African-American journalist writing about his hometown in a white-owned newspaper. Looking for a story that will hopefully lead him to a full-time position, Davenport gets his chance when he is called to cover a homicide. Local, struggling rapper, Stephen Ames is found shot to death in the backyard of his late parents' home. It's the usual homicide story for the community, but for Davenport, this breaking news could make or break him in more ways than one. The murder victim's sister, Maci Ames returns home to bury her brother and find answers to his demise. When Davenport and Maci meet, their worlds and mutual connections collide and Davenport's ethics as a journalist are tested.
