These are some of the things I think of when I'm sitting by the Flat River in beautiful Lowell, Michigan feeding the ducks and swans or walking through the Wittenbach woods with my husband. Believe it or not, I'm not ALWAYS talking. This book is dedicated to my mother, Janet Cummings, who was the first to encourage me to become a writer. I wrote my first poem at age 5. What took me so long to publish? Stark raving fear. But God has shown me how to get past that with a husband (Michael Gene Russeau) who showed me how to do it myself. Poems are like prayers. They are simply a way of talking to God or others. Simplicity and brevity are the keys to good writing and in my opinion, good anything. Abraham Lincoln probably did one of the best jobs of that in the Emancipation Proclamation. People love quips and quotes. Why? They are short, not boring and mean something personal. My goal in writing is two fold: One, to express myself. I certainly do enough of that! And two, to connect with any and all other people who can connect with me. People are my friends, even when they are not. Figure that one out!
