The updated Pi 2 Model B design is based around a Broadcom BCM2836 SoC, which includes an Quad Core ARM7 900 MHz processor, VideoCore IV GPU, and 1 Gigabyte of RAM. This revision Pi 2 Model B board features four mounting holes for easy installation, a built-in reset circuit, and can be powered via the USB data ports. The design does not include a built-in hard disk or solid-state drive, instead relying on a microSD card for booting and long-term storage. This board is intended to run Linux kernel based operating systems. Because it has an ARMv7 processor, it can run the full range of ARM GNU/Linux distributions, including Snappy Ubuntu Core. The Raspberry Pi 2 has an identical form factor to the previous (Pi 1) Model B+ and has complete backwards compatibility with Raspberry Pi 1.
